Obituary

Alexander Thomson, 64, of Washington St., Newport, died Friday at Miriam Hospital in Providence. He was the husband of 40 years of Lorraine (Plasse) Thomson.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Alexander and Gladys (Plante) Thomson. He was raised in Esmond and resided in New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. In recent years he made his home in Newport.
Mr. Thomson was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Germany for several years.
Mr. Thomson graduated from New Mexico State University with a degree in wildlife management.
He worked in retail management for over 30 years.
For many years he was a volunteer educator at the Roger Williams Park Zoo. He was instrumental in the formation of the wetlands education program and dedicated many hours to promoting the appreciation and conservation of wetlands.
Alexander was an avid photographer and found special enjoyment in sailing. He was proud of his Scottish heritage and often attended Highland games and Celtic musical and cultural events.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Michelle A. Tibbetts and her husband Greg, of Woonsocket, and Linda M. Everson, and her husband Jeff, of Londonderry, NH., two grandsons, Sean and Jesse Robin. He was the bother of Gail Ragosta, of North Scituate. He is also survived by several nieces, a nephew, and several cousins.
Visiting hours are Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 pm in the MENARD FUNERAL HOME, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Rhode Island Veteran’s Cemetery, Exeter, at a later date.
