Obituary

Captain Bartholomew J. Fennick (Bill), age 85, former President of AMSEA, a general Dynamics subsidiary, died at the Newfield house in Plymouth on March 9, 2008. Captain Fennick graduated from the California Maritime Academy in 1942. He then served in the U.S. Merchant Marine in various war zones during World War II. His first command was on a Liberty Ship, The S.S. Ethelbert Nevis at age 23 and was considered to be among the youngest seas captains in the Merchant marine. After the war he sailed for Moore McCormack lines as Master. In 1957 he came ashore in San Francisco as Port Captain of the Pacific Coast. He was later transferred to New York and quickly rose to Executive Vice President of Operations. He retired from Moore McCormack in 1983 when General Dynamics sought him out to develop an operating company for the U.S. Navy. He ran AMSEA as President until he retired in 1990.
Bill lived with his Wife Marjorie in Kingston, and now leaves her after 59 years of marriage. He is also survived by his four children, Michael Fennick and spouse Jana Rolla-Fennick of Oakland, CA, Deborah Fennick and spouse Chris Ewers of Somerville, Barbara (Bobbie) Fennick and partner Timothy Blevins of London, England, and Thomas Fennick and spouse Carolyn Fennick of Pembroke. Grandfather of Jacob Fennick, Sarah Fennick, and Juliane Iwerks. Services will be private.
