Obituary

Evelyn C. Anderson (nee Chalmers) was born at home in South Medford in 1912. She graduated from Medford High School in 1930 and from the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston in 1932. She studied piano at the New England Conservatory of Music. She worked as a secretary until she married Arthur Anderson in 1938 and was happily married for 65 years until his death in 2004. In 1941 she set up a home in West Medford where she would live for the next 67 years. She raised two children, Beth, who died in 1964, and Andy. She created a home filled with joy where friends, relatives, and neighbors were always welcome. The backyard was a playground for neighborhood children. She was well read and always found time for coffee and conversation. She greeted everyone with a smile and a talk. For years she hosted a Christmas Eve party which started at 6:00 pm and ended in the wee hours of the morning where friends, relatives, and an occasional stranger were welcomed. Her piano playing brought joy to friends at home, to audiences at shows where she served as an accompanist, and to recovering patients at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was active at Grace Episcopal Church in Medford. After her children were no longer living at home, she returned to work as a secretary until her husband retired. She and her husband loved to take cruises and traveled to all continents except Antarctica. For 12 years from 1985 to 1996 she along with her husband cared for her two grandsons during the summer and vacationed with them at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire.
Her funeral service was celebrated in the Grace Episcopal Church 160 High Street, Medford, Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 11 AM. Visiting hours were Friday, March 14, 2008, from 3 to 8 PM. Interment was in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. For additional information, please visit www.magliozzifuneralhome.com.
