Douglas B. Godwin, 42, of Waterloo died Monday, March 10, 2008, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2008, in the Sanctuary of Tifton's First Baptist Church. Dr. Wayne Roe and Rev. Derrell Hampton will officiate with burial to follow in Waterloo Baptist Church Cemetery. Durand Deal, Bob Lee, Ronnie Lewis, Mike Bennett, Ben Tanner, Mark Sandifer, John Brownlee and Sam Sims will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Miguel Garcia, Juan Garcia, Jose Garcia, Ray Zorn, Billy Fite, Rick Benson, Ray Cooper, Michael Wilson, Carroll Cannon and Dr. William Guest. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Godwin was born on April 6, 1965 in Cook County and was the son of Jimmy Godwin, deceased, and Elaine Young Dillard of Tifton. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Mike Godwin; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John S. Godwin; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Young; and one brother-in-law, Scott Hampton. He worked in golf course construction and was a member of Tifton's First Baptist Church. He had lived in Waterloo for 11 years.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Godwin is survived by his wife, Sonya Hampton Godwin of Waterloo; two sons, Colby Godwin, 12, of Waterloo and Will Godwin, 8, of Waterloo; one daughter, Lauren Grace Godwin, 3, of Waterloo; his dad, Neil Wood of Ty Ty; one brother, Todd Godwin of Ellabelle; one sister, Dionne Sims of Tifton; his mother-in-law, Jane Hampton of Tifton; his father-in-law, Derrell Hampton of Waterloo; and five nieces and nephews, Danielle Godwin of Ellabelle, Kennedy Godwin of Ellabelle, Tal Godwin of Ellabelle, Lars Sims of Tifton and Ridley Sims of Tifton.
