Obituary

Charles R. “Bobby” Floyd, 71, of Fitzgerald died Friday, February 29, 2008 at Dorminy Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 10 A.M., Tuesday, March 4, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Mike Ellis will give the eulogy. Interment will follow at 3 P.M. in the Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus with Floyd White, nephew of Mr. Floyd, officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Monday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Floyd was born July 12, 1936 in Muscogee County to the late Charles Raymond and Marie Bald Floyd. He was a graduate of Columbus High School and South Georgia College. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve. Mr. Floyd was a professional minor league baseball player for the St. Louis Cardinals. He moved from Columbus to Fitzgerald in 1960. He was the President and co-owner of Dixie Electron, Inc. for nearly 40 years. Very civic minded, Mr. Floyd was active in the Jaycees organization serving as local chapter president, 13th region president, and as a state director. He had been awarded an Honorary Lifetime Membership in the Tifton Jaycees. He also served as a past president of the Fitzgerald Rotary Club.

Mr. Floyd held the title of President for the Fitzgerald Athletic Booster Club for many years. He served for 38 years as a football official for the Georgia High School Association’s Goldleaf Association. His length of service to this organization was characterized by his impartial judgment and fairness. Mr. Floyd loved young people and did everything he could to support youth athletics.

Mr. Floyd is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law: Carol Floyd McDonald & Greg of Fitzgerald and Anna Beth Floyd Dreibelbis & Don of Valdosta; three grandchildren: Charles McDonald of Valdosta, Austin McDonald of Fitzgerald; and Hadley Dreibelbis of Valdosta; his twin sisters and a brother-in-law: Molly White of Thomasville and Sally Solomon & Tom of Lakeland, FL; three nieces; two nephews; and a special friend: Alice Lipsey of Tifton.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to the Fitzgerald Athletic Booster Club, P.O. Box 6, Fitzgerald, GA 31750 or to the donor’s favorite charity.
