Obituary

Dr. Glenn H. Asquith, Sr. Dr. Glenn H. Asquith, Sr., 103, Clarksville, died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at Manor House Dover, TN.. The funeral will be held at 1pm Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Haddonfield, 124 King Hwy E. Haddonfield, NJ.. Burial will be in First Baptist Church Cemetery in Haddonfield,NJ. Visitation will be from 4pm till 6pm Sunday at Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home and from 11am till the hour of service Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Haddonfield, 124 King Hwy E. Haddonfield, NJ.. Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born in Knoxville, TN, on October 21, 1904,to George H. and Mary McCrary Asquith. He was married to Helen Underdown Asquith (of Haddonfield, NJ) for 72 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Nancy Asquith of Dover, TN and Helen Lawrence of Media, PA, a son, Dr. Glenn H. Asquith, Jr. and his wife, Connie, of Macungie, PA, and four grandchildren.
Ordained in the American Baptist Churches, USA, Dr. Asquith served as pastor of American Baptist churches in Manyunk (Philadelphia) PA, Salem, NJ, Westerly, RI, Hartford, CT, Lowell, MA, and Montclair, NJ. He also served as Executive Minister of the New York State Baptist Churches, Executive Minister of the Philadelphia Baptist Association, and as Editor-in-Chief of the American Baptist Publication Society at the national offices in Valley Forge, PA. In retirement he served many interim pastorates, including First Baptist Church of Haddonfield, NJ, where he was named Pastor Emeritus. He was a graduate of Eastern Baptist College and Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, which also granted him a Doctor of Divinity degree. He was the author of 14 books and many articles on church life, the spiritual life, and spiritual issues of aging.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to First Baptist Church of Haddonfield. Local contributions can be made to Pleasant Hill F.W.B. Church Building Fund, 800 Blue Creek Lane, Dover, TN 37058. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Anglin Funeral Home in Dover, TN.
