Obituary

Eleanor A. McGregor, 92, of Clarksville, died Thursday, February 28 at Clarksville Manor Nursing Home.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Gardner officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 2 p.m. on the day of the funeral.

Mrs. McGregor was born September 16, 1915 in Logan County, KY., daughter of John and Sallie Anderson.

She was a member of Hilldale United Methodist Church, and a former member of the First Christian Church of Clarksville, where she was organist for many years.

Mrs. McGregor was preceded in death by her husband, Paul M. McGregor, a grocer and a former mayor of Clarksville; and by her two brothers, Garnett Anderson and John M. Anderson.

She was a graduate of Bethel Woman’s College of Hopkinsville, KY. She earned bachelors and masters degrees in elementary education at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville.

Mrs. McGregor was a retired school teacher, having taught third and fourth grades at Byrns Darden and Moore Elementary Schools.

Mrs. McGregor was an accomplished pianist and organist, and she delighted in playing particularly challenging classical compositions. After retirement, she served as organist for many funerals at Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home.

She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn McGregor Brown (widow of Frank R. Brown), Lewes, DE; three sons, Paul M. McGregor, Jr. (Carole), Lockhart, TX, John Patrick McGregor (Ginny), Lexington, KY, and Daniel B. McGregor (Janie), Clarksville; eight grandchildren, Eleanor Craig (John), Clarke Woodfin (Heather), Monte Woodfin (Gretchen), Paul McGregor, III (Robyn), Stewart McGregor (Kara), John Patrick McGregor, Jr. (Beth), Ryan McGregor (Jenn), and David McGregor; and eleven great grandchildren, Alexandra, Shelby, and Claire Woodfin; Chase, Trent, and Ainsley Woodfin; Jack, Eleanor, and Mercedes McGregor; Lucy McGregor; and Sophia McGregor.

Pallbearers will be Clarke Woodfin, Monte Woodfin, Paul McGregor, III, Stewart McGregor, John Patrick McGregor, Jr., Ryan McGregor, David McGregor, and John Craig.

The family members wish to express their deep affection and gratitude to Mary Birdwell, who provided loving care and friendship to Mrs. McGregor in her later years.
