Obituary

Dorothy C. Therrien, 87 of Londonderry, NH, and formerly of Nashua, NH for 30 years, died Monday, February 25, 2008 at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester, NH. Ms. Therrien was born in Montreal, Canada on November 3, 1920, a daughter of the late Alexander and Sarah Gwyneth (Heavens) Campbell.
“ I have no inhibitions about moving from what is called realistic to what is considered abstract. I feel that what is real in my painting is the image itself, which focuses with my idea as I begin to paint. The painting seems to create itself during the process! Farms tinged with personal feelings remembered or hidden in my past, unfold into a world of light and depth”
Dorothy Campbell Therrien, a native of Montreal, Quebec, has studied with Adam Sherriff-Scott, Willie Hoverman, at the Valentine School of Commercial Art, and the DeCordova Museum. She has also participated in artists’ workshops in Connecticut, Western Massachusetts and New Hampshire. She is currently a member of the Chelmsford Art Society and the Nashua Artist’ Association. Her father was a painter, art dealer, and gallery owner in Westmount, Quebec, for over sixty-five years. He instilled in her a love of art. Her work now reflects her appreciation of color, textures, and rhythms. She uses Canada, Maine, New Hampshire, and her own summer garden for inspiration and encourages the classes she teaches to create work which reflect their individual response to nature, wildlife, and music.
She is survived by two sons; Gary C. Therrien and his wife Marife of Gastonia, North Carolina, Ross C. Therrien and his wife Elaine of Londonderry; two grandchildren, Heather T. and Emiko Therrien; one sister, Gwyneth Eileen Campbell and one brother, Ian Warren Campbell both of Montreal, Canada. Mrs. Therrien was predeceased by her husband, Russell T. Therrien, a son, Alan C. Therrien and a sister, Muriel Elizabeth Marchuck.
