Westport - William R. Navin, 88, of Westport, formerly of Raynham, passed away Friday, February 15, 2008 at home. He was the husband of the late Lillian F. (Siddall) Navin, they were married in 1944.
Born in Fall River, son of the late Charles and Bertha (Hitchen) Navin, he grew up in Westport and had lived in Raynham for most of his life prior to moving back to Westport. A United States Army veteran, he was the first person drafted from Westport, MA to go into WWII on February 12, 1941. He served as a Radar Crewman Chief and saw European Theatre service before being discharged on December 5, 1945. In 1946 he went to work for Hodgman Manufacturing Co., in Taunton, MA and worked for 36 years before retiring from the position of President in September 1982. Mr. Navin was a Communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport.
Survivors include 3 sons: William R. Navin, Jr. of Westport, Robert G. Navin of Port Royal, DC and Charles J. Navin of Hampton, NH; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
He was brother of the late Charles Navin.
Memorial Mass to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, March 8, 2008 at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery.
