Obituary

Ignatius Joseph “Joe” Vaas, a former resident of Westwood and Newton Centre, the founder and former owner of Westwood Duplicate Bridge Club, died on Feb. 18, 2008 at the Golden Living center in Norwood. He was 92 years old.
Born in Newton he was a graduate of BC High School and Boston College in 1937. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II, and was an avid bridge player.
He was the loving father of Peter and his wife Rosann of Durham NC, Brian of Delray Beach FL and Carol Biron & her husband Scott of Norfolk MA. Cherished grandfather of Katelyn & Kelly Vaas and Carlie & Sarah Biron, loving brother of Cecilia Pink and the late Mary Pink and Frank Vaas. He is also survived by his former wife Elizabeth McKenzie Vaas of Westwood and many loving nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home, 465 Centre Street, Newton Corner on Thurs 4 to 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM in Sacred Heart Church, Newton Centre. Family and friends kindly invited. Interment will follow at Hoyhood Cemetery Brookline.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Parkinson’s Disease & Research at Mass General, 165 Cambridge Street, Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114.
