Bruce T. Vickery, 89

Bruce T. Vickery, 89 of Pocasset formerly of Mansfield died on Thursday February 21, 2008 at the Harborside Health Care Center in Falmouth. He was the beloved husband of the late Pauline (Hudson) Vickery who passed away on August 21, 2006. Mr. and Mrs. Vickery were married on June 12, 1941.
Born in Mansfield, MA on May 6, 1918 he was a son of the late Newell B. and Elizabeth J. (Brown) Vickery.
He grew up in Mansfield, was educated in Mansfield Schools and was 1936 graduate of Mansfield High School. At Mansfield High School he was a standout member of the football team and recently this year he was inducted into the Mansfield High School Hall of Fame.
Mr. Vickery served in the United States Navy during WWII. Upon being honorably discharged he returned home to Mansfield and along with his brothers founded the former Vickery Motors on South Main St. After the car dealership was up and running Bruce went to work at the former W.J. Connell Co. in Boston, the company later moved to Needham Heights and later to its final location in Foxboro. His specialty was small engines and he was also in charge of education at the company. After many years with W.J. Connell he retired as the companies Executive Vice President and General Manager.
An avid boater, Bruce was member and a past commander of the United States Power Squadron. He and his late wife enjoyed the many winters spent in Florida as well as the special times spent with there loving family. He was a member and past president of the International Engine Service Association and was also a member of the Bourne Council on Aging. Mr. Vickery had made his home in Pocasset for the past 40 years.
He is survived by his devoted sons; David B. Vickery and his wife Sandra of Franklin and Ronald C. Vickery and his wife Sandra of Monument Beach, his brothers Norman A. Vickery and his wife Gloria of Mansfield and Donald B. Vickery and his wife Priscilla of Sarasota, Florida, also survived by his cherished 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday February 26th at 10:00 A.M. at the Orthodox Congregational Church 17 West St. Mansfield. Burial will follow in the Spring Brook Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday February 25th from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers Bruce’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Bourne Council on Aging 239 Main St. Buzzards Bay, MA 02532.
