Alice Z. (Zahariades) Johnson, 89, of Framingham, formerly of Wellesley and New Bedford, died Wednesday February 5, 2003 at St. Patrick's Manor. She was the wife of the late Henry C. Johnson.
Born in Bor, Turkey, Asia Minor, the daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary (Lazarides) Zahariades, she immigrated to this country at the age of 13, settling in New York City. She moved to New Bedford in 1937 where she lived for many years before moving to Wellesley in 1997. She later moved to St. Patrick's Manor 3 years ago.
She was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Weston, and a former member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in New Bedford. She had been a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society of both churches.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Weston Senior Citizens and the New Bedford Senior Citizens, and attended activities at the Weston Council on Aging.
Survivors include a daughter, Pauline M. Travers of Weston; 3 sons, Alexander H. Johnson of Little Compton, Rhode Island, John H. Johnson of Baltimore, Maryland, and Nicholas E. Johnson of Orange, California; a brother, Michael Zadis of Westbury, Long Island, New York; 5 grandchildren, Stephanie Johnson, Christy Romanick, Mark Travers, Kristen Johnson, and Nicole Johnson; a great-grandson, Andreas Ghosh; and several nieces and nephews.She was the mother of the late Christopher Johnson and sister of the late Peter Zadis.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordMonday February 10, 2003 at 10 AM.Services at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 87 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford at 11 AM. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday February 9, 2003 from 3-6 PM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
