Victor M. Medeiros, 85, of Dartmouth died February 18, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital peacefully after a long illness.
He was the husband of Herminia B. "Minnie" (Baptiste) Medeiros.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Maria (Andrade) Medeiros, he lived in New Bedford most of his life before moving to Dartmouth 12 years ago.
Mr. Medeiros was a communicant of St. John The Baptist Church and a member of the Society of St. John's.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. during World War II and Korea. Mr. Medeiros was later employed at the Newport Naval Base for many years until retirement.
He was a member of the Portuguese American War Veterans Association, former member of the New Bedford Civil Defense, former member and Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus, Damien Council.
Survivors include his wife; 3 daughters, Betsy Lebeau, and her husband Richard, and Sandra Baptiste, all of Fairhaven and Judith Nunes of New Bedford; a sister, Mary Collins of Fairhaven; 5 grandchildren, Dianne Bowers, Suzanne Soares, Richard Nunes, Karen Nunes and Lauren Baptiste; 6 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Joseph Frias.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Thursday, February 21st at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Church at 10 AM. Burial in Rural Cemetery will be private. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, February 20th from 4-8 PM.
