Obituary

Mr. Valfrido R. Tenaglia, “Val” 79, of Medford died Monday at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Stella (Dello Iacono) Tenaglia with whom he shared more than 50 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn, son of the late Antonio and Rosina (D´Alleva) Tenaglia. Following college he joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a Manufacturing Engineer and financial advisor for General Electric Company.
Val was very active in St. Francis of Assisi Parish. He was a Eucharistic Minister and also a teacher of CCD. He enjoyed the varied church activities and rarely missed a part in parish shows. He is a past president of the St. Francis Holy Name Society, and the St. Francis Senior Club. He served as a Cub Scout Master there. Always active in his community he was a past president of the North Medford Little League. He was a former member of the Medford High School Football Association.
Well known in senior citizen circles, he was instrumental in organizing many trips for the seniors to Foxwoods. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was an avid Red Sox Fan. In his little spare time he enjoyed gardening. He will be fondly remembered as a friend to all, he was quick witted and an exceptionately compassionate man.
Because of his numerous affiliations with civic activities, Mayor McGlynn referred to him as “the Mayor”. He was presented the Key To The City in 1989. In addition to his wife, he leaves 2 sons, Paul Tenaglia and his wife E., Robin of CT.; Stephen Tenaglia and his wife Amy of Medford, 2 daughters, Laraine Drohan and her husband James of Stoneham and Rosanne Meroski and her husband Richard of Medford. Dear grandfather of Erienne Tenaglia and Courtney Tenaglia of CT.; Jennifer Drohan and John Drohan of Stoneham and Cassandra Sessa of Medford. Brother of the late Guido Tenaglia. Funeral from Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Friday at 9:30 am followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis Of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, at 10:30 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
