Lillian (Messer) Kates, a longtime resident of Reading, entered into rest on Saturday, February 15, 2008 at the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading. She was 92 years old & the wife of the late Walter A. Kates.
Born in Boston, the daughter of the late Barnett & Annie (Bloomberg) Messer, Mrs. Kates was raised & educated in Revere where she graduated from Revere High School in 1932. She went on to study at the Bryan & Stratton College in Boston. Mrs. Kates was employed as a secretary for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She was a member of the Association for the Mentally Ill.
Mrs. Kates was the beloved mother of Bonnie Kidd & her husband George of Ocean Springs, MS, James Kates of Niwot, CO, & Roger Kates of Woburn; devoted grandmother of Rebekah & Miriam; & dear sister of Patricia Pellows of Newton & the late Rosalyn Hoffman of Revere.
Her funeral will be held in the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Ave. (Cary Sq) CHELSEA on Monday, February 18, 2008 at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in the New Tifereth Israel of Everett Cemetery, 232 Fuller St. Everett. Memorial observance will be held at her late residence on Monday ONLY.
