Obituary

NORTH ATTLEBORO - George C. Taft Jr., 63, of 56 Oakhurst St., died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro, following a long illness. He was the husband of Beverly A. (Long) Taft.

Born in Woonsocket, R.I., July 13, 1944, a son of the late George C. and Alice (Gagne) Taft, he formerly lived in Franklin and Norfolk until moving to North Attleboro 15 years ago.

He was raised and educated in Woonsocket, and until his retirement, worked in the maintenance department at Walpole State Prison for more than 22 years.

He was a member of the Teamsters Union, and his hobbies and interests included coin collecting and gardening.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Gregg A. Taft of North Attleboro; three stepdaughters: Sandra Grace and Beverly Ann Gagliard-Lowe of North Attleboro, and Vicki Smith of Florida; two brothers: Henry Taft of Forney, Texas, and Richard Taft of Woonsocket; a sister, Shirley Taft of Woonsocket; and eight grandchildren.

He was the brother of the late William Taft and Gail Burr.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 10:15 a.m. from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage St., with a funeral service at 11 a.m. in Grace Episcopal Church, 104 North Washington St., North Attleboro. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Joseph Cemetery, Medway.

Calling hours are Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.
