Frank Kmiec, 95, of North Dartmouth died February 13, 2008 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Bernice and Michael Fastoso after a period of declining health.
He was the widower of the late Katherine (Kuczewski) Kmiec.
Mr. Kmiec was born in Taunton, MA on September 9, 1912 to the late Tekla (Bzdula) Kmiec and John Kmiec.
He began his career as an electrician in Taunton, went on to manage Thom McCann shoe stores, and owned a bowling alley. During World War II he was an electrician at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy, MA working on the construction of battleships. In the late 1940's he founded Bay State TV and Appliance, Inc. and ran this successful business until he was 88 years old.
He will be remembered as an affable, energetic and engaging man who touched all he met with his caring manner and gentle wit. He was a life-long learner and had an interest in the current events. His smile and positive attitude was legendary.
He was affiliated with the Friends of Poland and many business organizations.
Surviving in addition to his daughter and son-in-law are his grandchildren, Michael and Ingrid Fastoso of Los Angeles, CA, Lynne and Todd Fleming of Concord, NH, and Mark Fastoso and his fiancée Stephanie Roth of Alexandria, VA. His other joys were his "great ones" Alex and Spencer Fleming and Evan Fastoso. He leaves many nieces and nephews.
He was the grandfather of the late Rick Fastoso.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 AM in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
