GLOUCESTER: Miss Helga M. Johnson, 99, of Reynard Street, died Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at her residence following a brief illness.
Born in Sweden on November 21, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Per-Anders and Beda Johnson.
Miss Johnson came to the United States in 1926 at the age of seventeen to stay with relatives in Bay View. She worked as a housekeeper and nanny in Magnolia and Gloucester. She also found work at the Babson Dairy Farm in Riverdale, working with the late Carl Trumbull, who bought the farm from Dr. Babson. Together they sold milk, and shared the Trumbull family home in Riverdale.
She loved her home and gardens, and her cats. She also loved to play Bingo with her friends and enjoyed a quiet life.
She is survived by a niece, Marianne Andersson, of Sweden, nephews, Karl Swanson and Robert Swanson of Sussex, WS, a great-niece, Annika Schultz, and a great-nephews, Per Andersson and Ulrik Andersson both of Sweden, her cousin, Louis Johnson of Texas and dear friends, Mildred Reavey of Dorchester and Shirley Landergren and her family of Gloucester, and many other friends. She was predeceased by a three brothers, Arthur, Karl and Sven and two sisters, Astrid and Anna all of Sweden.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 - 2 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held privately in the Beechbrook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
