Manchester– Rev. Msgr. Leo Louis St. Pierre, 93, died February 4, 2008 at Bishop Peterson Residence following a brief illness.
He was born in Saybec, PQ Canada on February 24, 1914, the son of Eustache and Genevieve (Gagne) St. Pierre.
Rev. Msgr. St. Pierre was ordained in Manchester on May 30, 1939. He was given his first assignment at St. George Church in Manchester on June 7, 1939. In November of 1941 he was named Chaplain at St. Louis Hospital in Berlin, NH. He was then assigned to St. Anthony of Padua Church in Manchester in 1948. In May of 1957 he was assigned to St. Patrick Church in Bennington NH. He was named Administrator at St. Francis Xavier in Nashua in June of 1960. Five years later in 1965 he was named Pastor at St. Cecilia Church in Wolfeboro, NH. He was appointed honorary prelate in October of 1989. He retired in June of 1997.
In His Life: family includes one brother Henri St. Pierre, of Manchester, 3 nephews, Robert St. Pierre, of Manchester, Roger St. Pierre, of Buckley WA., Raymond St. Pierre, of Goffstown, one niece, Rita Proulx, of Goffstown, grand nieces, grand nephews, great grand nieces, and great grand nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother Alphonse St. Pierre, and a sister Eugenie St. Pierre.
Services: A Rite of Reception of the Body is Thursday at 2 pm in St. Anthony Church, Belmont and Harvard Sts., Manchester. Rev. Msgr. St. Pierre will lie in repose in the Church from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 pm.. Vespers will be at 7 pm.
A Mass of Christian burial will be concelebrated Friday at 10:30 am in St. Anthony Church. The Most Reverend John McCormick, Bishop of the Diocese of Manchester will be the main celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Anthony Church Building Fund, 172 Belmont St. Manchester NH 03103.
