Richard P. Ingalls, a retired electrical engineer for MIT at the Haystack Observatory in Westford, died on Sun Feb. 3, 2008 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center West Campus. He was 79.
Born in Salem he lived in Danvers for many years. He graduated from MIT in 1950 and worked for MIT at Lincoln Labs and the Haystack Observatory for over 40 years retiring in 1993. He served in the U.S. as a 1st Lt. during the Korean War. Mr. Ingalls was an active member for over 40 years and Past Master of Fraternity & Fuller Lodge AF & AM, and Past Patron of OES. He also was a longtime member of the United Parish of Auburndale where he had been head usher. Mr. Ingalls had been a resident of Newton for 51 years.
He is survived by his wife of over 51 years Patricia (Storey) Ingalls, his daughters Susan Ingalls of San Antonio TX, Elizabeth Belonga and her husband Paul of Naples NY and Nancy Marshall and her husband Rick of Concord, his granddaughters Sarah, Katie and Emily Belonga and Chelsea Ingalls, and his sister Carolyn Ingalls of Cambridge.
Visiting hours will be in the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St. Newton Corner on Thurs Feb 7 from 4-8 PM. Norumbega Fraternity Lodge will conduct a Masonic Service at 7 PM. A memorial service will be held on Fri at 1 PM in the United Parish of Auburndale 64 Hancock St. Auburndale.
