Laurence A. "Larry", "Unc" O'Brien, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on Thursday January 31, 2008 following a lengthy illness. He was 78 years old.
Larry was born in Boston on October 29, 1929. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended Boston Public Schools. He enlisted into the United States Army on April 30, 1946. He was discharged on September 27, 1947 with the rank of Private First Class. Larry worked as a laborer for many years at Electronics Corporation of America which was located in Cambridge. He retired in 1992. He also enjoyed volunteering his time at the Ferrin St. building in Charlestown. He was a member of Bunker Hill Council # 62, K. of C.
Larry is the beloved son of the late J. Joseph and Isabelle C. (Murphy) O'Brien. He is devoted brother of the late Emily Arsenault and Joseph O'Brien. He is the loving uncle of Alana Borden and her husband Robert of Revere, Cheryl McGonagle and her husband James of Charlestown, Martha Dickey of New Hampshire and the late Philip Arsenault. He is the loving "Dad" of Lori Harrington and her husband Robert of Billerica and the late Joseph King. He is the loving great uncle of 25 nieces and nephews.
Larry's Funeral will be held on Wednesday February 6, 2008 at 9 a.m. from the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Larry will be on Tuesday February 5, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
