Obituary

Robert Stanley Tomberlin, 80 of Ocilla died Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at his residence.

Graveside services will be held 11A.M. Friday, February 1, at Tomberlin Cemetery in Irwin County with Elder Edward McIntyre, Elder Jimmy Chapman and Elder Ed Evans officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Thursday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mr. Tomberlin was born October 31, 1927 in Irwin County to the late M.H. “Nas” and Doris Paulk Tomberlin. A former resident of Albany, he lived in the Ocilla community most of his life. Mr. Tomberlin served in the United States Navy during World War II and retired as a Technical Sergeant from the United States Air Force, having served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. During his time in the armed forces he was active in the Bay of Pigs, involved in the testing of detonators for the A-Bomb and photo-mapping worldwide. Mr. Tomberlin was an Electrician and a former Mason. He was a member and Deacon of Henderson Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Wydene Griffin Tomberlin of Ocilla; daughters and sons-in-law, Deenia & Tommy Whittle of Thomaston, Dorrie & Buddy Woodard of Dublin, Duree Land, Diana & Matthew Garvey and special daughter Julie Moore all of Ocilla; grandchildren, Mandi (Jason) Cole, Scarlett (Lance) Alberson, Joy (Josh) Pate, Tamzy Jane Whittle, Tracie Thacker, Robin & Melanie Lott, Andy & Evan Woodard, Donya land, Micki Moore, Amber (Michael) Fenton, Dillon & Boone Garvey and special grandson, John Jolley; great grandchildren, Shelby Cole, Brady Alberson, Laina Lee Pate, Heather Ann & Russ Thacker and Gage Fenton. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Credwin Tomberlin.
