Paul E. Newton, 91 of Ocilla died Monday, January 28, 2008 at Palemon Gaskins Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held 11A.M. Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla with Rev. Clayton Dowd and Elder Otis McGee officiating. Interment will follow in Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Hahira, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Newton was born April 1, 1916 in Lowndes County to the late Robert Durant and Maude Webb Newton. He lived in the community since 1948. He was a Pharmacist and former co-owner of Turks Pharmacy in Ocilla. Mr. Newton was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Aleutian Islands. He was a member of Ocilla Primitive Baptist Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Ann N. Sprague of Smyrna; son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. “Bob” & Ann Newton of Fitzgerald; Grandson, Robby Newton; great grandson, Jonathan Newton; sister, Mamie Ruth Johnson of Quitman as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Clara Stalvey, Gladys Watson and Susie Mae Bennett, five brothers, Randolph Newton, Marvin Newton, Slayton Newton, Ellis Newton and Edward Newton and a son-in-law, John Sprague.
