Obituary

Dorothy I. "Dot" (Cotter) Keniston, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Saturday January 26, 2008 at her home in Charlestown after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 86 years old.

Dot was born in Boston on January 13, 1922. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1939. Dot worked for over 25 years for New England Telephone Company as an operator and retired in 1985. She was a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association.

Dot is the beloved wife of the late William A. Keniston. She is the loving mother of Dorothy Greatorex and her husband James of Everett, Mary Lacey, Margaret "Peggy" O'Brien and her husband William all of Charlestown and William Keniston and his wife Mary of Minnesota. She is the cherished grandmother of James and John Greatorex, Paula Zoukhri, George Lacey, William, Kathleen and Elizabeth Keniston, William, Timothy and Catie O'Brien and the late Karen and Dorothy Greatorex. She is the proud great-grandmother of Matthew, Jamie and Emma Rose Greatorex. She is the loving sister of Walter Cotter of California and the late Margaret O'Callahan, Francis and Ruth Cotter. She is the most loved aunt of Jack and Bernie O'Callahan, Margie O'Callahan all of Charlestown, Gina O'Callahan of Melrose and the late Margaret Mullen, James, Cornelius and William O'Callahan. She is the life long and dearest friend of Ollie Connolly of Florida. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Dot's Funeral will be held on Friday February 1, 2008 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Dot will be held on Thursday January 31, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
