Veronica "Verna" Jezuit, 89, died Friday in the Inpatient Unit at Hospice Community Care, Dunmore. Her husband of 61 years, Stanley A. Jezuit Sr., died Nov. 15, 2001.
Born Jan. 29, 1918, daughter of the late Matthew and Mary Helinski Dutka, Veronica was a lifelong resident of Olyphant and a graduate of Olyphant High School. She was a devout member of St. Michael the Archangel Church, Olyphant, and its Sodality. She has now joined her husband, but Verna and Stan Sr. will live on through the family who loves them so much and to whom they dedicated their lives, especially as "pumpkin" to her great-granddaughters and as nana and poppy to their great-grandchildren.
The family expresses a most sincere thanks to the staff and friends of Dunmore Health Care and Hospice Community Care for helping them and Veronica maintain the dignity that guided her life.
Surviving are three children, her caregiver, Stanley Jr. and wife, Christine, Jessup; Michael and wife, Madonna, Wyoming; and Rita Koeppel and husband, Harry, Elizaville, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Tina, Jillian and Brian Jezuit, Jill Kampherstein and Brent Koeppel; five great-grandchildren, Bryn, Holden, Joseph IV, Emory and Anne; a brother, Stephen Dutka, Lake Ariel; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Dutka and Helen Dutka Powell; and four brothers, attorney Joseph, Peter, Frank and John.
The funeral will be Monday at 9 a.m. from the Michael P. Glinsky Funeral Home Inc., 129 Grant St., Olyphant., with Mass at 9:30 in St. Michael the Archangel Church, to be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Muldowney. Interment, St. Michael's Cemetery, Olyphant.
