Donald N. Monaghan, 73, of Mattapoisett died Saturday January 19, 2008 at Sippican Healthcare Center after a long courageous battle with lung cancer. He was the husband of the late Beverly M. (Roderiques) Monaghan.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late James and Esther (Reid) Monaghan, he lived in New Bedford most of his life before moving to Fairhaven and Mattapoisett.
Mr. Monaghan was formerly employed by Revere Copper & Brass and Sippican Ocean Systems until his retirement.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy
Survivors include four children, Cheryl Genereux and her husband Thomas of Rochester, Kathleen Taber and her husband Douglas of Wareham, Donald Monaghan, Jr. and his wife Julia of Mattapoisett, and David Monaghan and his wife Kimberly of Attleboro; a brother, Robert Monaghan of Fairhaven; seven grandchildren, including Stephanie Taber with whom he shared a special bond; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late James Monaghan and Shirley Gaudreau.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Anthony's Church. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett.
