Obituary

POMPANO BEACH, FL: Sara E. “Sally” (Cannon) Knox, formerly of Reading and Gloucester, passed away peacefully at daybreak on Tuesday, January 15, 2008. She was the wife of the late James A. Knox.
Born in Stanley, North Carolina on January 31, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Sarah (Stowe) Cannon. Sally moved to Massachusetts at the age of 14.
For many years, until her retirement to Pompano Beach, she was employed as a secretary in the Boston office of China Grove Cotton Mills, China Grove, North Carolina. Sara will be best remembered for her spunky spirit, amazing baked delicacies, homegrown tomatoes and her extraordinary artistic talent. She had a special love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be missed by all who survive her.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James A. Knox, Jr. and Claire Knox of Bridgeton, ME, her daughter, Anne E. Marchand of Gloucester, six grandchildren, Mark Knox of Vancouver, Canada, Karen Knox of Bridgeton, ME, James and his wife, Becky Knox of Union Grove, AL, Jay and his wife, Lisa Darnell of Amesbury, Elizabeth and her husband, Stephen Kradolfer of Braintree and Kristen and her husband, Erik Swanson of Boxford, twelve great-grandchildren and many loving and caring nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of fifty years, she was also predeceased by twelve brothers and sisters and a son-in-law, Lou Marchand.
The family is grateful for the love, caring and support of her longtime caregivers, Betty Smith, as well as Nancy and Michelle of VNA Care Hospice of Gloucester.
Her funeral services will be held on April 12, 2008 in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Forest Hill Ave., Lynnfield at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the VNA Care Hospice, 8 Angle St., Gloucester, MA 01930 or to the charity of one’s choice.
