Walter H. Foss, Jr., 78, of Norton formerly of Walpole died on Wednesday January 9, 2008 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Lauretta E. (Gamble) Foss.
Born in Boston, MA on July 27, 1929 he was a son of the late Walter H. and Gladys (Moreshead) Foss, Sr.
He grew up in Dedham, was educated in Dedham Public Schools and was a graduate of Dedham High School.
Walter enlisted in the United States Navy in 1948 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Seaman in 1950. He then enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served till 1953. He later went on to graduate from Northeastern University where he received his degree in Electronic Engineering.
Mr. Foss had worked as an Electronic Technician at M.I.T. for many years and retired from the Charles Draper Lab as an Electrical Engineer.
His hobbies included boating and singing. He was a member and instructor for the United States Power Squadron and was also a former member of the Walpole Barber Shop Chorus. While living in Walpole he was a member of the United Church in Walpole.
He had made his home in Norton for over 25 years and was formerly of Walpole and Dedham.
In addition to his beloved wife he is survived by his devoted daughter; Susan L. Powers and her husband Mike of Norton, his cherished grandchildren; Stephanie Claire Powers and Cody Powers both of Norton, he was the uncle of Dana Gamble of Weymouth and Cindy Gumpright of Pembroke and was the brother of the late Robert Foss.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday January 12th from 2-4 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial will be private
