Obituary

Robert “Bob” C.W. Young, 61 of Kingsford, Michigan, died April 21, 2007 at his residence.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Spring Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Irwin County with Elder Mickey Harris, Liz Black and William Young officiating.

Mr. Young was born December 11, 1945 in Columbus, Ohio to Harriet Messernecht Young Thomson and the late Robert P.T. Young. He was a 1965 graduate of Fletcher High School in Neptune Beach, FL and attended the University of Florida where he started for the Gators as an offensive lineman and won the Orange Bowl in 1967. Mr. Young voluntarily joined the U.S. Navy, serving for two tours in Vietnam with the Navy Seabees. He graduated from the University of North Florida in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Mr. Young married Margaret Harper November 4, 1973 at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Irwin County. He worked as a manager for the paper industry for most of his adult life in paper plants in Georgia, Texas, Virginia, Louisiana and Michigan. In later years, he worked for the State of Michigan and for United Abrasives. Mr. Young was a member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church where he and his son were altar servers. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Sierra Club.

Mr. Young is survived by his wife, Margaret Harper Young of Kingsford, MI; children, Aimee (Hans) Whitmer of Gladstone, MI, Natalie (Michael) McWilliams of Janesville, WI, Liz (Douglas) Black of Kingsford, MI and William Young of Kingsford, MI; mother, Harriet Young Thomson of Jacksonville Beach, FL; sisters, Dr. Cy (Dr. Michael) Glasser of Potomac, MD, Liz (Hayden) Abel of Port Aransas, TX; grandchildren, Madine, Cecilia and Nicholas. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Tina Young and his in-laws, Ludy G. Harper and Edna S. Harper Tucker.
