TEWKSBURY - William H. "Bill" Unger, age 79, the former owner of a local airport shuttle van service, died Saturday, January 5, 2008 at his Tewksbury home, surrounded by his family, after a lengthy battle with cancer.  He was the husband of Ruth "Joan" (Silveira) Unger, a well known Merrimack Valley real estate broker.
Bill was born in Medford, on May 27, 1928, a son of the late William and Winnifred (Spencer) Unger.  He was raised in Medford and graduated from Medford High School.  He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He worked the greater part of his life as a Carpenter, from the Wilmington Carpenter's Union, Local 26.  He later founded and operated Bill's Logan Shuttle company based in Tewksbury.  In his later years, he was the shuttle driver for the Holiday Inn, on Highwood Drive in North Tewksbury.
Mr. Unger was a member of the Tewksbury United Methodist Church, the Shriner’s Aleppo Mounted Patrol of Wilmington, and the Malden Elks Lodge.

After his family, nothing brought Bill more pleasure than the time he spent at the
Lake Sunapee region of N.H. where he was an avid boater, hunter and fisherman.  He enjoyed traveling with his wife and discovering new adventures, eating good food and meeting new friends. He also enjoyed motorcycles and horses, and was most comfortable when wearing a western style hat and cowboy boots. His love for animals showed with various pets he had throughout his lifetime.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his family, Brian Unger of Bow, NH, Heidi Carney, and her husband Michael of Sunapee, NH, Fawn Unger of Dracut, Robyn Unger and David Paterson of Tewksbury; six grandchildren, Rhiannon, Dorian, Julien Unger, Bryce Unger, Skylar Unger, and Robert Carney.
He was also brother of the late Marilyn Lawless and Robert Unger.

He will be dearly missed by his many friends and relatives who loved him including Elinor and James Drake, Judy and Patrick Sullivan, Camille and Dennis Drennan, John Silveira and Bill’s beloved friend of 70 years, Donald Brown..

His funeral Services were held Monday, Jan. 7, at the Tewksbury United Methodist Church, So. Tewksbury. A spring burial will be held in Sunapee, NH. In lieu of flowers,  Memorials in Bill’s name made to the Tewksbury Food Pantry, 999 Whipple Road, Tewksbury, MA 01876, will be appreciated.
