Obituary

David B. Jewett,74 years,of Lakeville, formerly of Brockton, passed away unexpectedly on December 29, 2007. He was the loving husband of Adele T. (Lombardi) Jewett, married for over 51 years. Beloved father of Kathleen S. Jewett of Brockton, Patricia J. Patten and her husband Thomas F. Patten, Jr., of Centerville, David B. Jewett and his wife Laurie J. Jewett. He was pre-deceased by his beloved son, Daniel M. Jewett, who passed away in February 1978. Beloved grandfather of April, Brian, Danielle and Thomas, and extended family Bridget, Cheryl & Aiden.

Dave was born in Brockton the son of the late Russell B. Jewett and Dorothea H. (Metivier) Jewett. He is also survived by his sister, Maryrose Fleming of East Taunton and his brothers John R. Jewett of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania and Robert E. Jewett of Gainesville, Florida.

He was always an active and integral part of his children’s development and interests. Dave served on the Board of Directors at the East Side Improvement Association (ESIA), was an influential Little League coach and manager; as well as Basketball Coach and referee for St. Colman’s CCD League.

Dave was a 1952 graduate of Coyle High School in Taunton. He served active duty in the US Navy during the Korean War, from 1953 to 1957 and in the US Naval Reserves from 1957 to 1961. In the service of his country, he traveled on a world cruise. He also served in the US Army in 1976.

Dave was a baker by trade, and, after joining the Navy, he enhanced his electrical skills as an Electricians Mate. He was a long time Electronics Technician in Communications at General Dynamics in Quincy. Dave was a Computer Technician at the Brockton Enterprise for over 20 years until his retirement in 2002. He was a communicant of St Colman’s parish when he resided in Brockton.

Dave fought valiantly and persistently to live an active and outgoing lifestyle, forever sharing in family activities, despite health woes such as diabetes and heart disease.

Always the practical joker, Dave had a quick witted sense of humor and was an avid Red Sox and New England Patriots fan and competitive card player. He was a remarkable golf player, and was very proud of his hole-in-one (at age 72) at the Squirrel Run Golf Club in September 2006. He also enjoyed going to casinos and country music especially Johnny Cash.

A Funeral will be held from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Friday January 4, 2008 at 8 am followed by a Funeral Mass in Christ the King/St. Colman Parish at 9 am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery, N. Cary Street, Brockton. Visiting hours will be Thursday January 3, 2008 4-7 pm.
