Obituary

William E. Tracy Jr. died on Friday, December 28th at the Skilled Nursing Facility at North Hill in Needham. He was 95 years old. Born in Telluride Colorado, he was the son of the late William E. and Edith (Jackson) Tracy. Bill grew up in Concord MA and was a graduate of Lenox Academy, Class of 1930 and Yale University Class of 1934. Mr. Tracy served in the US Navy during World War II. He was employed by Westinghouse as a ventilation engineer for over 30 years. He went on to work for Stone and Webster as a consultant for 15 years, retiring in 1980. Bill had been a Needham resident for 51 years, the last 22 years at North Hill. Mr. Tracy was a longtime volunteer at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham. He was a member of the Congregational Church in Needham and was a founding member of the Great Plain Squares. The beloved husband of the late Ruth (Romaine) Tracy for 62 years, he leaves his daughters, Dr. Martha Ann Tracy of Oakland CA, Nancy Sargent of LaMoine ME and Holly Tracy-Potter of Sharon VT. He was the brother of Robert J. Tracy MD of Lenox and the late Dr. Ann Tarbell and the grandfather of Elizabeth Grace Potter and Joshua Tracy Sargent. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at the Eaton Funeral 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Saturday, January 5th at 1:00 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting will be held on Saturday from 12 Noon to 1:00 Pm prior to the service. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers donation in Bill’s name may be made to the Great Plain Squares, PO Box920642, Needham MA 02492-0008.
