Obituary

New Bedford – Sarah N. (Church) Kinney, 86, of Mattapoisett died December 26, 2007 at the New Bedford Health Care Center. She was the widow of Edward D. Kinney, Jr. Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Stephen T. and Evelyn (Burt) Church. She was the widow of Linwood R. Bailey, mother of the late Stephen A. Bailey, grandmother of the late Stacy Lee Bailey and sister of the late Priscilla C. Baker.

Mrs. Kinney graduated from New Bedford High School in June of 1939. She worked as a cashier at Kresges 5 & 10, the Brockton Public Market and for 23 years as a driver and manager for area school bus contractors before retiring in 1986. She lived in Mattapoisett since 1954.

Mr. and Mrs. Kinney’s home was known throughout the town for its colorful Christmas decorations, including a Santa’s workshop. The Kinney’s raised farm animals and conducted tours of their grounds for local school children.

She was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan who enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, talking with her friends at the Mattapoisett town wharf and visits with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Kinney loved her cats and enjoyed watching the birds that came to the feeders in her back yard.

Survivors include her son Linwood R. Bailey, Jr., his wife Carol and their three children. Pamela Bailey DeCastro and her sons, Nicholas and Jonas DeCastro, Scott Bailey and his wife Lisa and Darryl Bailey and his wife Stephanie; a stepdaughter, Brenda Kinney and her three children. Dennis Millette, Jr. and his wife Jill and their three children, Samantha, Adam and Benjamin, Paul Silvia, Jr. and Heather Silvia-Oliver and her husband Jason and two children Kylee and Johnathan; a daughter-in-law, Linda Bailey, her companion Bruce Flanders and her son Edward A. Bailey; a granddaughter, Kimberly Burnett, her husband Francis and their four children, Joshua, James, Bailey and Madison.

At her request Mrs. Kinney will be cremated.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4688.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at the Cushing Cemetery, Mattapoisett on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 11:00 A.M.
