William A. Johnson, 75, of New Bedford died December 28, 2007 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital.
He was the husband of Lorraine (Gonsalves) Johnson with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.
Born in Fairhaven, the son of the late Edward J. and Louisa (Timm) Johnson, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Johnson was formerly employed by Revere Copper and Brass for many years until retirement. Prior to that, he was employed as a foreman at Red L Fish Plant.
He enjoyed his entire family and was known for always taking pictures at any function he attended. He is the man known for the one and only JOHNSON FAMILY COOKOUT.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife; 3 sons, Kenneth Johnson, and his wife Carla, Robert Johnson, and his wife Gina and William Johnson, and his girlfriend Andrea, all of New Bedford; a daughter, Cathy Johnson-Houtman, and her husband David, of New Bedford; 3 brothers, Charles Johnson, and his wife Lori, Harold Johnson and Eric Johnson, and his wife Lucky, all of Cape Cod; 3 sisters, Dori Ferns and Ellenor Whitley, both of California and Carole Johnson of New Bedford; a brother-in-law, Anthony "Sonny" Gonsalves, and his wife Helen, of Connecticut; 6 grandchildren that he loved dearly, Stephanie Houtman, Azia Johnson, Cedric Houtman, Desmond Johnson, Danye Johnson and Kennedy Johnson; several nieces and nephews.
He was the son-in-law of the late Antonio Gonsalves and Matilda (Pina) Gonsalves Canto, brother of the late Edward Johnson and Richard and brother-in-law of the late Manuel "Jimmy" Canto.
