Obituary

Laconia-Francis David Fecteau, 79, of Dixon Street died Wednesday afternoon, December 26, 2007 at Lakes Region General Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Laconia on May 16, 1928, he was the son of the late Albert and Bertha (Gonyer) Fecteau. A lifelong resident, Francis was raised and schooled in Laconia attending Sacred Heart School, and graduating from Laconia High School.

Prior to his retirement in 1993, Francis was employed as a sales manager for the J.J. Nissen Baking Company. Francis was a life member of the Laconia Lodge of Elks, B.P.O.E. 876 where he served as a past trustee, and also ran many of the member golf tournaments. He was also a life member of the Laconia Rod & Gun Club where he ran the pool league. As an avid golfer he also ran the Robert F. Fecteau Memorial Golf Tournament for the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation. He held past memberships at Den Brae Golf Course in Sanbornton, Lake View Golf Club in Belmont, Oak Hill Golf Course in Meredith, Pheasant Ridge Country Club in Gilford, and Laconia Country Club. As a lover of sports and community, Francis always looked forward to Friday night Laconia Sachems Football games. He also enjoyed attending all local youth sports. He was a big fan of the New England Patriots, and the Boston Red Sox, as well as all the New England teams. Francis enjoyed the solitude of the beach and water, especially his family camp in Kennebunk, Maine. He was a communicant St. Joseph Church in Laconia.

Francis is predeceased by a son, Robert F. Fecteau in 2003; and his brother Albert “Cut” Fecteau, Jr. in 1983.

Francis is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris M. (Gay) Fecteau of Laconia; four sons, Kenneth Fecteau and his wife Debbie of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, James Fecteau and his companion Debbie of Hooksett, Jerry Fecteau and his wife Colleen of Northfield, and William Fecteau of Laconia; his daughter, Nancy Fecteau of Northfield; five grandchildren, Michael, Tracy, Jodie, Curtis, and Nicole; three great-grandchildren; his daughter-in-law, Sue-Ann Fecteau of Gilford; two sister-in-laws, Shirley Cass of Laconia, and Jacqueline Fecteau-Brasley of Gilford and Florida. Many nieces and nephews also survive Francis.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at St. Joseph Church, 30 Church Street, Laconia at 11:30 a.m. Rev. Gary J. Kosmowski, pastor of the church celebrated the mass. Entombment followed at Sacred Heart Cemetery Chapel, Garfield Street, Laconia to await burial in the spring in the family lot. Visiting hours were Wednesday, January 2, 2008 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Simoneau-Paquette Memorial Home, 139 Church Street, Laconia.
