Obituary

Brockton Lloyd Jacobs died December 24th in the VA Medical Center in Brockton. He was the husband of the late Hazel (Anderson) Jacobs.

Born and raised in Cumberland, Maine he was the son of the late Clinton and Grace (Burnham) Jacobs and attended Cumberland Schools.

He was a fifty year resident of Brockton.

Mr. Jacobs joined the US Navy after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941 and served with the Amphibious Forces, having been part of the invasion of North Africa, Italy, and Normandy. He received a “Special Diploma” from the government of France for his brave participation in the Normandy Invasion leading to the liberation of France. He later transferred in 1949 to the US Coast Guard where he did much sea duty, retiring as a Chief Quarter Master in 1963.

He worker for the General Services Administration in Boston and retired in 1982, he received accommodations for his service during the Blizzard of 1978, the opening of the JFK Library, and from Congressman Moakley for his help in a fire at his office.

He was a member of the Weymouth Elks, Weymouth Top Three Assoc., Retired Coast Guard CPO Assoc., the Fleet Reserve Assoc. Branch 66, the Whitman VFW # 697 and the American Legion Post 22.

He is survived by his children Sandra Willman and Gregory Jacobs both of Washington State, and Diane Frazier and Jilleen Morgan both of Brockton, and his brother Charles Jacobs of Ohio. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Beverly Smiley.

His funeral service will be held Monday December 31st at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street, (Rte 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Mass. National Veteran’s Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be held Sunday December 30th from 4:00-8:00 PM.
