Obituary

Tillman Oliver Jr. was bom June 12, 1946 to Tillman Oliver Sr. and Laura Ford Oliver in Limestone County, AL. He departed this life on December 24, 2007 at Huntsville hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Marie Ford, a brother, Frank Oliver, and his first wife, Brenda Jackson Oliver.
As a teenager, Mr. Oliver was taught barbering by his uncles, and he later used the trade to establish a barbering business in Harvest, AL.
Mr. Oliver received Christ in his life at an early age and was a member of the Beaver Dam Primitive Baptist Church in Toney, AL under the direction of Reverend A. D. Hammonds. He later moved his membership to Church Street CPCA under the leadership of Dr. Henry Bradford, where he remained until his death.
Mr. Oliver attended Council Training High School and was drafted by the United States Army in the early sixties. He later attended Athens State University graduating in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He then went on to pursue a Master of Science degree in Business Administration attending various universities.
During his military career serving over 37 years, he was awarded the Bronze Star while serving in the Republic of Vietnam and the Meritorious Service Medal for serving 27 years of exceptional meritorious service.
He retired from the United States Army Reserve and continued to work with the Department of Defense as a civilian employee receiving numerous awards until his retirement. He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory a loving wife, Joyce Oliver, of Decatur AL; a son, Travis Oliver of Huntsville, AL: a daughter, Sabrina Oliver" a granddaughter, Tannika Oliver: a great granddaughter, Honesty Brenda Oliver, all of Birmingham, AL; two stepchildren: Tamya Thompson and Larry Thompson of Decatur, AL; five sisters: Clara Moore (James), Mildred Johnson, and Peggy Mobley all of Detroit, MI, Dorothy Oliver (Reginald) of Chattanooga, TN, and Ethel Birdsong (Charles) of Huntsville, AL; a special nephew, Kenneth Ford of Huntsville, AL; a special aunt, , Nannie Ford Houser of Athens, GA and a host of other relatives.

Funeral services for Mr. Tillman Oliver Jr. will be held Friday, December 28, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. from Madkins Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America with Pastor Mitchell Walker officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. The remains of Mr. Oliver will lie in state in the church one hour prior to funeral service.
