SHREWSBURY-James “Jimmie” John, 79, of Shrewsbury, died Monday, December 24th in the Christopher House. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Irene S. (Silvia) John; his daughter, Sylvia J. Martin with whom he lived; his son Steven F. and his wife, Shelley John of Worcester; three brothers, Christos G. Johns of Worcester, Perry and his wife, Jeanne Johns of Rutland and Savas and his wife, Carol John of Franklin; two sisters, his twin, Yvonne Botsis of Shrewsbury and Cynthia, wife of Thomas Frank of Cranston, RI; his four grandchildren, Casey and Thomas Martin, and Stephanie and Lindsey John; and many nephews and nieces.
He was born in Northern Epiros, Greece the son of George S. and Penelope (Rogos) John. Mr. John was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He had been a restaurateur for many years, and had owned and operated the Boynton Restaurant on Highland Street since 1968. Mr. John was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the Order of AHEPA; and enjoyed gardening at his Cape Cod home.
The funeral is Friday, December 28th, from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a service at 11:00 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, December 27th from 2:00 until 4:00 and 6:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
