Obituary

Mr. John Francis “Jack” Fitzgerald, Jr. of Medford, formerly of Tewksbury and Somerville and beloved husband of Diane F. (Silva) Fitzgerald, died at the Kaplan Hospice House in Danvers on Saturday, December 22, 2007. He was 78 years old.
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on March 22, 1929, he was the beloved son of the late John F., Sr. and Virginia (Cottreau) Fitzgerald. Mr. Fitzgerald was a graduate of the Somerville Public School System and had been a firefighter in Somerville for 30 years. He was also a Korean Army veteran, entering the military at Boston, Massachusetts, on February 12, 1951 and receiving his honorable discharge from Fort Devens on January 26, 1953.While serving in the Army, Mr. Fitzgerald attained the rank of PFC.
He was a long time and active member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was also an avid golfer and religious Red Sox fan. In addition to being active in his community, Mr. Fitzgerald was an active and long time communicant of St. Joseph Church in Medford.
Beside his beloved wife, Diane, he will be sorely missed by his three loving children; Kevin and his wife Tracy Fitzgerald of Malden, Cathy Fitzgerald of Hull and Rosemary Ryder of Marstons Mills, four cherished step-children; Joseph M. Ferreira, Jr. of Lowell, Michael and his wife Wendy Ferreira of Manchester, N.H., Arlene and her husband Steve Keezer of Revere and Lisa and her husband Earl Wright of Deering, N.H. and seven devoted grandchildren; Elizabeth, Makenzie, Joseph, Emily, Cheyenne, Dusti and Jonathan. He is also survived by several cousins including, James Fitzgerald of Cambridge and several relatives in Canada.
His funeral was from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue,
MEDFORD, Thursday, December 27, 2007, at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford at 11 AM. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended. Visiting hours were Wednesday, December 26, 2007, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment was private.
