Helen E. (Slattery) Jackson, 95, of Raleigh, North Carolina formerly of Mansfield died on Thursday December 20, 2007 at Brighton Gardens in Raleigh. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert C. Jackson who passed away on February 7, 2000.
Born in Attleboro, MA on October 21, 1912 she was a daughter of the late Michael and Helen (Sullivan) Slattery.
She grew up in Attleboro and was a 1930 graduate of Attleboro High School. She went on to become a 1934 graduate of Boston University.
Mrs. Jackson was a retired Physical Education Teacher/ Supervisor and worked for the Norwood school system for 20 years prior to retirement.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield she was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club and served as a member and past president of the National Council of Catholic Women’s Club.
Helen was a 30 year member and Governmental Appointee to the Mansfield Housing Authority and in 2006 the community room at 15 Park Street was named after her for her 30 years of dedicated service to the elderly in Mansfield. She was a member of the Mansfield Downtown Redevelopment Association and the Massachusetts Board of N.A.H.R.O.
She was an avid golfer and tennis player. Mrs. Jackson had made her home in North Carolina for the past 6 years and was a former resident of Mansfield for over 50 years.
She is survived by her devoted children; Lee Ann Georgi and her husband Skip of Raleigh, North Carolina and Michael A. Jackson and his wife Kathy of Memphis, Tennessee, she was the dear sister of Catherine Roberts of Mashpee and the late David E. Slattery, also survived by her cherished 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Saturday December 29th at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday December 29th from 9:00 – 10:00 A.M. prior to the funeral Mass at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, Helen’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to St. Mary’s Church Expansion Fund 330 Pratt St. Mansfield, MA 02048.
