Obituary

Norman Francis Foster affectionately called "Norm" was born on January 9, 1927 in the Bronx, New York but grew up in Providence, Rhode Island. He moved to Alabama and briefly attended Tuskegee Institute before joining the U.S. Army where he served from July 1945 to October 1952. After military, Norm attended Morgan State University, but graduated from Morris Brown University in Atlanta, Georgia with a Bachelor Degree in English and Literature. He later received a Master of Science Degree in Personnel Administration and Psychology from Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama.

Norm enjoyed a long and successful 38 year career with the Federal Government where he served in many leadership and management positions to include assignments in Korea and Viet Nam. He removed to Huntsville in 1978 to work for the Department of Army at Redstone Arsenal where he served as the Chief of the Management Employee Relations and Labor Relations Office until his retirement on November 30, 1990. After his retirement from the government, Norm worked for five years at Alabama A&M University in the Human Resources Office.

Norm was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity for over 50 years. He loved people and music and he had a great affinity for high technology video, stereo, and TV equipment which were great hobbies for him. But, Norm cared about his family and friends most of all.

Norm is survived by his wife Betty, two sons, Frank and Danny; nieces, Paula McCullar and her sons, Adam and Joshua, Alice Jamison, Aisha Murray and family, Melita Carney; nephew, Sir Jamison; special friends; Jacqueline Rogers, Dawn Wallace, Ellexus Wallace and son Charles, Walter Pickett, and Jackie Bennett.

A memorial service will be held for Mr. Norman Foster at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, December 17, 2007 from the Nelms Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Wayne Snodgrass officiating.
