Obituary


SOUTH DARTMOUTH — Janice P. Monte, age 64 years, of South Dartmouth, died Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at home surrounded by her loving family, after a long illness. She was the wife of Bruce J. Monte to whom she was married for forty five years.

Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of Mildred A. (Church) Cardoza of Dartmouth and the late William B. Cardoza.

She was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational School, a lifelong area resident and a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth.

Mrs. Monte was a member of St. Mary's Ladies Guild, Diocesean Catholic Women's Club, a CCD teacher for many years and recipient of the Marian Medal for her dedication to her church.

A member of NB Voke Alumni association, she was a talented quilter, loved to travel to New Hampshire, play cards, create different crafts and spend time with her family. For many years, Janice was a housekeeper for St. Mary's Rectory.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her daughter, Susan J. Chace of Dartmouth; her son, William B. Monte of Dartmouth; her sister, Marjorie Bourgeois of Dartmouth; two grandchildren, Brian and Nathan Chace; and many nieces and nephews.

Her visiting hours are on Sunday from 4-8 P.M., in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., NB. Services will take place on Monday at the funeral home at 10 A.M., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 A.M., in St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth and burial in So. Dartmouth Cemetery
