Obituary

MADELINE PATRICIA (BOISVERT) TOWNSEND, age 86, of Methuen, formerly of Hingham, died peacefully, after a brief illness, on Wednesday, Dec. 5th, 2007 at the Methuen Health & Rehabilitation Center in Methuen where she resided for the past 15 months. She was born in Billerica, MA on March 22, 1921 to John and Harriet (Cox) Boisvert and lived for may years in Lowell. She was married to the late Joseph Edward Townsend for 57 years and raised their four children in Winthrop, where she worked in the local hospital. Madeline was a loving and devoted mother, nana and great nana. She was the mother of Arleen MacFarland and her husband Bob of Hudson, NH, Kathy Griffin of Billerica, Gerry Sanderson and her husband Craig of Hingham and the late Joseph E. Townsend, Jr. Her grandchildren and their spouses include; Jamie and Chris MacFarland of Merrimack, NH, Brian and Julie MacFarland of Hudson, NH, Kristen and Chris DiAngelo of Westminster, Stephanie and Scott Leavit, Kerry, Steve and Eric Griffin of Billerica and Terrence, Andrew, Liz and Matty Sanderson of Hingham. She was an adoring great nana to Ryan, Kyle, Savana, Scotty, Saige, Stevie and Jenica all of Billerica, Amanda of Hudson, NH, Louis, Cayla and Kendra of Westminster and Kayleigh and Connor of Merrimack, NH,. She was predeceased by two sisters; Marion Camara and Virginia Blamy, and four brothers; Harold, Edward, Joseph and Jimmy Boisvert. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law; Alma and Gert Boisvert of Lowell and Chelmsford and many nieces and nephews in the Lowell area.
Prior to going to Methuen, Madeline lived for many years at the Lincoln School Apartments in Hingham, where she enjoyed great friendships. During the time she resided at the Methuen Health & Rehab Center, she was lovingly cared for by the nurses, nursing assistants and therapists at the facility. In earlier years Madeline enjoyed cooking, baking and many cruises with her late husband.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 10th at 11:30 AM at St. Paul's Church, 147 North St., Hingham Square.
Friends may visit at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Sunday afternoon from 2-5 PM.
Donations in her memory may be made to Children's Hospital, 300 Longwood Ave., Boston, MA 02115.
Interment will be in the Hingham Center Cemetery.
