Arlene A. (McCormack) Arcand, 91, of Jupiter, FL, and Meredith, NH, formerly a longtime resident of Wellesley, MA died on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 following a brief illness. Born in Arlington, MA, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Margaret (McSolla) McCormack. She attended the Newton public schools and the LaSalle School, and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Trinity College, in Washington, DC in 1939.
Mrs. Arcand was a certified tutor and worked with students coping with dyslexia in various schools in the Natick and Wellesley area. During the 1970’s, she was the office manager at the Allston Depot Steakhouse, a business which the family opened in l972. Her input on this venture was invaluable, as was her ongoing assistance in the operation of the Arcand Spring Company in Allston, MA, a family business that is celebrating its 100th year in continuous operation.
Arlene married Eugene J. Arcand. Sr., in August, 1940, and they resided for many years in Wellesley, MA where they raised their five children. Mrs. Arcand was an active member of the Wellesley community, particularly in the public school system and the Cub Scout program. She was a parishioner for many years at St. James the Great Church in Wellesley and at St. Charles Church in Meredith, NH.
Mrs. Arcand was an avid reader, swimmer and lover of animals, especially Labrador retrievers. She and her husband enjoyed spending summer months on Lake Winnipesaukee, where their home was often filled with family members and friends of all ages. She enjoyed taking long walks, traveling with her husband and devoting much time and energy to her children and grand children.
Mrs. Arcand was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Eugene, who passed away in 2005. She leaves one sister, Mrs. Carolyn Whitcomb, of Jupiter FL and Meredith, NH.
She is survived by her five children: Suzanne Sullivan of Weymouth; Eugene (Jay) Arcand Jr. and his wife Rita of Lincoln; Andree Wassel and her husband Ronald of
Jamestown RI; Daniel Arcand and his wife Marjorie of Wellesley; and Margaret Cary and her husband Dennis of Boca Raton, FL; twelve grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. (Rt.16), WELLESLEY, Saturday at 11:30 AM. Funeral mass in St. Paul’s Church, Wellesley at 12 Noon. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visitation prior to mass from 9:30-11:30 AM. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellelsey.
