Judy Gibbs Johnston, 85, of Tifton died Tuesday, November 27, 2007, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2007, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Elder Wayne Gibbs, her nephew, will officiate with burial to follow in Hickory Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 28, 2007, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Johnston was born on September 11, 1922 in Ty Ty (Tift County) and was the daughter of John Allen Gibbs and Jimmie McMillan Gibbs, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wayland Lannie Johnston; three brothers; and four sisters. She was a retired school teacher, having taught for 30 years, of which 10 years was in Berrien County, and 20 years teaching second grade at Northside Elementary in Tifton. She had lived in Tifton for 51 years.
Mrs. Johnston is survived by one son, Jesse Alan Johnston of Douglasville; one daughter, Judy Ann Weldon of Lake Blackshear (near Cordele); three grandchildren, Kenneth J. Weldon, Jr. of Cordele, Matthew Ryan Weldon of Lizella and Wendy Leigh Holliday of Perry; and five great grandchildren.
