Obituary

W. Thomas Ameen, of Manchester, NH, passed away at home on November 23, 2007.
He was born in Manchester on September 10, 1920, the son of Saheed and Sophia (Abokalil) Ameen, who had both emigrated from Lebanon. He was educated in the local school system and served in the 8th US Army-Air Corps during WWII, stationed in England.
Prior to retirement, he had been employed by the US Postal Service for 37 years. While working for the USPS, he was a founding member of the Postal Employees Credit Union. Tom had also worked at Rockingham Race Track for 20 years and enjoyed working part-time at the McHugh Funeral Home for many years.
He was a long time communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and served as an usher for 56 years prior to the parish’s closure. He most recently had been a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church.
Tom served as selectman and moderator for Ward 7 in Manchester and served several terms in the NH House of Representatives. He held membership in the League of 1000 Men of the Monastery of the Precious Blood as well as the Intervale Country Club. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and Tiger Woods. He will be remembered as a very generous and selfless person who always put the needs of others before his own.
He was predeceased by his first wife Alice (Samara) Ameen in 1968, his sister, Mrs. Helen Shaia of North Andover, MA, and his brother, Frederick Ameen of Manchester.
Members of his family include his wife of 37 years, Victoria (Baroody) Ameen of Manchester; two sons, Thomas W. Ameen of Manchester and Theodore M. Ameen of Newport, NC; two brothers, Afef Ameen and Edward Ameen, both of Manchester; grandchildren, Miranda and Nathan Ameen of Newport, NC; nephews and nieces.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday November 27, 2007 in Blessed Sacrament Church, Manchester. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.
