Obituary

ESSEX: Charles E. Arruda, 89, of Chebacco Terrace, died Tuesday, November 20, 2007 in the Addison Gilbert Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary Arruda who died in 1994.
Born in Augusta, Maine on July 8, 1918, he was the son of the late Louis e. and Marion R. (Ferrie) Arruda. He had resided in Gloucester for many years before moving to Essex twelve years ago. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served under General George Patton at the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged on November 20, 1945.
Mr. Arruda was employed for many years at the former Mighty Mac Coat Company in Gloucester. He was a life member of the Cape Ann Chapter No. 1471, Loyal Order of Moose and the Gloucester Lodge of Elks No. 892.
He is survived by a dear friend, Esther L.M. Towne of S. Hamilton and her family, Butch Towne and Susan Bissel both of Beverly, Ronald Towne, Glenn Towne and Sonja Towne all of Essex and Eric Towne of Portsmouth, NH. He was also predeceased by his good friend, Albert “Eddie” Towne.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday in the Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester at 9:30 a.m. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the VNA Care Hospice, 5 Federal St. Danvers, MA 01923.
