Obituary

John H. “Jack” Tamke, 64, died Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at home after an illness. He leaves his wife, Janice E. (Smedberg) Tamke. They recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. He also leaves a son, John H. Tamke, Jr., of Worcester; 2 daughters, Lori J. Gerulskis and her husband Gus of Southborough and Heather E. Tamke of Worcester; a sister, Harriet Gunerman of Baldwinsville, NY; 3 grandchildren, Caroline, Jack, and Claire of Southborough; and 6 nephews. Jack was born in Boston, son of John Tamke and Harriet (Bourne) Tamke Martin. He was a graduate of North High School and Worcester Junior College. He served with the National Guard/Army Reserves and was a manager of food services and catering for Saint Vincent Hospital. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir, ushered, and coached the basketball team. Jack particularly enjoyed catering many special functions over the years.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 23 at 11:00 a.m. at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street. A calling hour will be held at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in All Faiths Cemetery. Contributions may be made to UMass Memorial Foundation, Home Health or Hospice, PO Box 2795, Worcester MA 01613 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
