Meier, Willy I. of Quincy, January 7, 2003.

Beloved husband of Elizabeth D. (Doohan/Duggan) Meier. Loving father of Irma M. Westphal of West Quincy and William A. Meier of East Canaan, NY. Brother of Irma Gudmann of Denmark and the late Kaj Meier.

Grandfather of Andrew and Brian Westphal, both of Quincy, Carol Westphal of VT, and Debora Poulos of Marshfield.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home 785 Hancock St. , WOLLASTON Friday at 8:00 AM.

Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, West Quincy at 9:00 AM.

Visiting hours Thursday 7:00 - 9:00 PM.

Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy.

In December of 1930, at age 17, Mr. Meier went to sea in the Merchant Marine as a seaman where he worked as a navigator. After 2 years he went directly to officer training and became a Captain. Russia was his first port and while serving, he traveled the world.

After a torpedo was dropped from a Japanese zero during the Battle of Okinawa onto hisship, the "William B. Allison" (a U.S. Liberty Ship), he sustained 3rd degree steam burns on his forearms.

In 1933, he twice sailed on the square rigger training ship "Danmark" and worked on the U.S.S. Constitution for 25 years. He also served in the U.S. Army.

While at Wentworth Institute, he earned a degree in mechanical drawing.
