Emanuel “Muscles” Tsipopoulos, 78, of Manchester, died November 13, 2007, at his home surrounded by family from complications of Parkinson’s Disease.
He was born in Manchester, June 19, 1929, to George and Helen (Blagmenos) Tsipopoulos. He grew up in Manchester graduating from Central High School, class of 1947, and later graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in New Haven, CT.
He served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Tsipopoulos worked in the food service industry in various capacities most of his life. He worked in several restaurants in the New England area including the Wauwinet House on Nantucket Island. Upon returning to Manchester, he was a co-owner of Merrimack Fruit on Elm Street for many years. He retired from Southern NH University where he worked as a chef. During his retirement he ran a private catering business.
Manny was an excellent athlete and an avid sports fan throughout his life. He played basketball at Central High School and later coached the youth basketball team at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He was also an avid golfer and was a member of the Derryfield Country Club.
He was dedicated to his family and friends and was loved by many for his upbeat personality, his wonderful sense of humor and his generous heart.
Family members include his wife of 50 years, Anastasia (Kourtis) Tsipopoulos of Manchester; two daughters, Helen Minkle and her husband, David, of Manchester and Dorothea Tsipopoulos and her husband, Thomas Kennedy, of Honolulu Hawaii; a sister, Elpeneke (Picky) Bobotas of Manchester; seven nieces and nephews; six godchildren and many grand nieces and grand nephews
The funeral was held Saturday November 17, 2007 at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery.
